Kayaking in Alaska Kayaking Expedition

Try out our other activities while staying at our vacation lodge
Alternate activities are available for all guests at the Afognak Wilderness Lodge if you (or your party) are not interested in all of our spectacular saltwater and freshwater fishing opportunities or are much of a photographer or hunter. Perhaps you are a fisherman, photographer or hunter who wants to try something new for a day or two or need alternate activities for your family or spouse. Remember, our lodge is the only full-service residence or lodge in Afognak Island State Park, located in the Kodiak Island Archipelago in southwest Alaska – about 250 miles south of Anchorage.

Afognak Island is a slice of wilderness heaven, and the state park totals more than 75,000 acres and is mostly undeveloped and pristine, known for its rugged topography and dense spruce forests. It’s a true wilderness coastal state park and was one of the nation’s first conservation areas.

We have been hosting all types of vacationers since 1974, whether they are here to do a little hiking, hunting, clam-digging, beachcombing, boating, kayaking, water skiing, swimming, wildlife or bird watching, nature walking or just wanting to relax in one of the most beautiful rustic settings in the world with first-class accommodations. Whatever you want to do, we can help to arrange it – or just stay out of your way!

Our lodge is perfect for those who want either a casual or adventurous day (or both in one) surrounded by all the wilderness and sea life that Alaska has to offer. That’s proven in all the types of guests that we host, from singles and couples to families, business and tour groups, sportsmen, environmentalists and even many film crews. We have had visitors from dozens of countries and we like to tell our guests that once you visit, “You’ll want to return.”

Alternate Activities at our Vacation Lodge

No matter what alternate activities you choose, you will be safe in the hands of fully-licensed local guides who can lead you to the best places to hike, point out where the best place is to spot a bear or see the salmon running. Or if you want to go off by yourself for a stroll on the beach to find some hidden treasures, we can recommend the best places to look. We even have guests who are so comfortable in the lodge area and with the beautiful surroundings there that they just stay put to decompress for a day!

Experience Alaska

Are you ready to take an unforgettable break from that every-day stress and pressure and visit this enchanted forest by the sea? There simply is no better choice in this part of Alaska than Afognak Wilderness Lodge, the only lodge and year-round residence within the Afognak Island State Park. We have many alternate activities outside of fishing and hunting, so bring your spouse, your family, your business group.

Our space is limited so we can best cater to our guests’ needs, but you will enjoy a relaxed but adventurous vacation with incredible local cuisine and all of the creature comforts of home (wireless Internet, satellite TV, comfortable linens, full electricity, etc.) when it’s time to head back indoors. We even have a sauna.

Our lodge season is May 20-Sept. 20, when the weather is at its best in Alaska, so don’t delay on making a reservation. Our $750 per day rate includes pretty much everything you will need as far as accommodations, travel and any activities, but don’t hesitate to bring along anything you wish. We also can make arrangements to have anything you might collect here shipped back for you.

Call lodge owners Shannon, Josh and Luke Randall, who have been residents in this area for more than four decades, at 866-978-4417 in the U.S. or 360-799-3250 for more information on fishing, hunting or any alternate activities or to make reservations. There is no minimum stay required.
